Participate in Speech Therapy Research

The PPA Communication Project:
Speech therapy for individuals with neurodegenerative speech-language impairments

If you would like to participate in speech therapy research, learn how you can get involved below.

  • To examine how effective participants find individual and/or group speech therapy for helping them maintain their involvement in conversation with their close social networks

  • Adults over 18 years old who have:

    • A confirmed neurodegenerative diagnosis

    • Speech-language changes that are a symptom of concern

    • Carer/close person who can participate too

  • One or two pre-therapy testing sessions up to 120 minutes total time. We will ask you to do some speaking tasks.

Participation is over 12 months. You will receive either:

    • Two 8-week blocks of weekly individual therapy. You can attend the individual sessions face-to-face or online

    • Fortnightly group and two 8-week blocks of weekly individual therapy combined

    • Fortnightly group therapy only.

We will ask you to do some progress testing each month – this will take about 30 minutes each time.

We will also ask you to tell us what you think about the therapy. This will happen in four interviews - one at the beginning of the study, one in the middle, one at the end, and one three months after you finish therapy.
